The 10-Teiche Marathon in Hahnenklee is one of my oldest and fondest memories of an official running event.
The nature, the atmosphere, and the race itself have stayed with me vividly to this day. What struck me most was the route, which led through a breathtaking landscape that constantly changed and offered new impressions.
The temperature on race day was almost perfect: 16°C with bright sunshine, providing ideal conditions for a half marathon.
However, good weather alone doesn’t make a race easy. With over 400 meters of elevation gain to tackle, the course presented a real physical challenge. The steep ascents and descents required both stamina and focus. It certainly wasn’t a walk in the park, but that’s exactly what made it so appealing.
The route itself took us through a diverse natural landscape that was truly one-of-a-kind. We ran on forest trails and country paths, passing by the namesake ponds that give this marathon its unique charm. Every section of the course had something special to offer, whether it was the cool shade of a dense forest or the expansive fields with stunning views of the surrounding nature.
Unfortunately, the run wasn’t without a small mishap for me. I missed a turn, which ended up costing me about 3 or 4 minutes. I probably got too distracted by the scenery or was lost in thought. In hindsight, it was frustrating, but also part of the overall experience.
Despite this little detour, the 10-Teiche Marathon remains a race that I remember for being both challenging and beautiful. It’s a course that pushed me physically but also rewarded me with its incredible natural beauty.
