What do you do when you have no motivation to go running? You put on your running shoes and go anyway. That was exactly how I felt today after work. The terrace was calling, with a glass of rosé, a quiet evening, and the very tempting excuse that I could always run tomorrow. But this time, the inner couch potato lost.
It was only 21 degrees, but the air felt very heavy and humid. Not ideal running weather, but honestly, not a real excuse either. I just wanted to do a short run, with no big goal, no pace in mind, just getting out there.
The run felt harder than I would have liked. That was probably due to the long break from running and the humid weather. But in the end, that does not really matter anymore. I went running, I got it done, and right now, that is what counts most.

Whenever I travel somewhere, I always pack my running gear. To be honest, it often stays untouched in the car and comes back home without being used. This time, however, I actually managed to get out for a run.
While visiting relatives in Castrop-Rauxel, I laced up my running shoes right after breakfast and headed out. Just a few minutes away, I found a beautiful running route. What impressed me most was the history of the area. Around twenty years ago, a power plant stood there. Today, nature has completely reclaimed the landscape. There is now a lake, wide open green spaces, and a protected nature reserve.
The broad paths and flat terrain made for a very enjoyable and relaxed run. These are exactly the kinds of routes that help clear the mind and allow you to fully enjoy the surroundings.
I love discovering new running routes whenever I travel. You get to experience a place from a completely different perspective. Before I knew it, I had completed a comfortable one-hour run, and it left me feeling refreshed, energized, and balanced for the rest of the day.

My second run of the week. It took some effort once again to lace up my running shoes and head out the door. But I also know that consistency is what eventually makes running feel easier and enjoyable again.
Running in the afternoon was probably not the best idea. The air was hot and humid, almost standing still, and every step felt a little heavier than usual. That’s why I deliberately chose a route without any major hills at the beginning. Today wasn’t about fighting climbs; it was simply about getting the run done.
The start felt good, and I found my rhythm surprisingly quickly. Even so, during this short run I could clearly feel that I’m not fully back in shape yet. My legs felt fine, but the humid conditions definitely made themselves known.
Still, I’m glad I laced up my shoes and went out. Every run brings me one step closer to regaining my old fitness and getting back into a regular running routine.

At the moment, things really aren’t going according to plan. I hardly managed any runs in May. There was always something getting in the way. Sometimes it was a lack of time, sometimes a lack of motivation, and sometimes my mind was simply occupied with other things. But it’s a new month and that means new motivation. So today I headed out again on my usual short route starting right from our front door.
I deliberately slowed the pace down so that running would actually be enjoyable and so I could ease myself back into a steady rhythm. Right now, it’s not about setting personal records or piling up miles. It’s about putting on my running shoes regularly and getting out the door.
The fresh air felt good, my legs felt surprisingly relaxed, and with every kilometer my mind became a little clearer. It wasn’t a long run, it wasn’t fast, and it certainly wasn’t spectacular. But I got the run done. And right now, that matters far more than any pace or distance.
